But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.
But the angel said to him, "Don't be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard, and your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord."
Behold, you will be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things will happen, because you didn't believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time."
After these days Elizabeth, his wife, conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying,
Behold, Elizabeth, your relative, also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
It happened, when Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, that the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!"
Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she brought forth a son.
to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear,
Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,
Jesus himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,
the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim,
The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority, and their glory, for it has been delivered to me; and I give it to whomever I want.
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,
But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."
But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously dressed, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
Those along the road are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.
Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root, who believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation.
But Jesus hearing it, answered him, "Don't be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed."
and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.
They answered, "'John the Baptizer,' but others say, 'Elijah,' and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again."
Behold, two men were talking with him, who were Moses and Elijah,
It happened, as they were parting from him, that Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let's make three tents: one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah," not knowing what he said.
They were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
"Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men."
They didn't receive him, because he was traveling with his face set towards Jerusalem.
When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and destroy them, just as Elijah did?"
Turning to the disciples, he said, "All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him."
Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'"
For when you are going with your adversary before the magistrate, try diligently on the way to be released from him, lest perhaps he drag you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
He went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and traveling on to Jerusalem.
The younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of your property.' He divided his livelihood between them.
For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.
They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why didn't you believe him?'
They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.

saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again?"
These words seemed to them to be nonsense, and they didn't believe them.
and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
He said to them, "Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
While they still didn't believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"
You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, 'How have we wearied him?' In that you say, 'Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them;' or 'Where is the God of justice?'
I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don't fear me," says the LORD of Armies.
"All nations shall call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land," says the LORD of Armies.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes.
and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News."
A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, "If you want to, you can make me clean."
But Jesus, when he heard the message spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Don't be afraid, only believe."
He marveled because of their unbelief. He went around the villages teaching.
But others said, "He is Elijah." Others said, "He is a prophet, or like one of the prophets."
They told him, "John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets."
Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus.
Peter answered Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let's make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
They asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
He said to them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?
But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him."
He answered him, "Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me."
Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."
Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, "I believe. Help my unbelief!"
Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if he was thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck.
"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.
For most certainly I tell you, whoever may tell this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and doesn't doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is happening; he shall have whatever he says.
Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.
They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we should say, 'From heaven;' he will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
But watch yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils. You will be beaten in synagogues. You will stand before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them.
When they lead you away and deliver you up, don't be anxious beforehand, or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
"Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.
Then if anyone tells you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, there!' don't believe it.
"It is like a man, traveling to another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and also commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.
Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, that he might deliver him to them.
They, when they heard it, were glad, and promised to give him money. He sought how he might conveniently deliver him.
Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.
For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him." Those who were crucified with him insulted him.
Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, "Behold, he is calling Elijah."
One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Let him be. Let's see whether Elijah comes to take him down."
When they heard that he was alive, and had been seen by her, they disbelieved.
They went away and told it to the rest. They didn't believe them, either.
Afterward he was revealed to the eleven themselves as they sat at the table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they didn't believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned.
These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages;
Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud. Abiud became the father of Eliakim. Eliakim became the father of Azor.
Azor became the father of Sadoc. Sadoc became the father of Achim. Achim became the father of Eliud.
Eliud became the father of Eleazar. Eleazar became the father of Matthan. Matthan became the father of Jacob.
Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.
Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.'
Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way. Let it be done for you as you have believed." His servant was healed in that hour.
When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They told him, "Yes, Lord."
But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.
But when they deliver you up, don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.

His disciples asked him, saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn't recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them."
When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him, saying,
He said to them, "Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him that a huge millstone should be hung around his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depths of the sea.
His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him.
"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, kneeling and asking a certain thing of him.
All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven or from men?" They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn't believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. When you saw it, you didn't even repent afterward, that you might believe him.
Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name's sake.
Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.
"Then if any man tells you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or, 'There,' don't believe it.
If therefore they tell you, 'Behold, he is in the wilderness,' don't go out; 'Behold, he is in the inner rooms,' don't believe it.
He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents besides them.'
"He also who got the two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents besides them.'
"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified."
and said, "What are you willing to give me, that I should deliver him to you?" They weighed out for him thirty pieces of silver.
and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.
Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.
"He saved others, but he can't save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"
About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lima sabachthani?" That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This man is calling Elijah."
The rest said, "Let him be. Let's see whether Elijah comes to save him."
Shave your heads, and cut off your hair for the children of your delight. Enlarge your baldness like the vulture; for they have gone into captivity from you!
They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its gates. He will deliver us from the Assyrian, when he invades our land, and when he marches within our border.
The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; who, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.
Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn't retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.

Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up its doors; even to the tower of Hammeah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hananel.
After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired another portion, from the turning [of the wall] to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
After him repaired Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz another portion, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib.
Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people [stood] in their place.
They took fortified cities, and a rich land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns dug out, vineyards, and olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled, became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness.
Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them. In the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard from heaven; and according to your manifold mercies you gave them saviors who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries.
But after they had rest, they did evil again before you; therefore left you them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them; yet when they returned, and cried to you, you heard from heaven; and many times you delivered them according to your mercies,

As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, there were recorded the heads of fathers' [houses]; also the priests, in the reign of Darius the Persian.
The sons of Levi, heads of fathers' [houses], were written in the book of the chronicles, even until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib.
and the priests, Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets;
Now before this, Eliashib the priest, who was appointed over the rooms of the house of our God, being allied to Tobiah,
and I came to Jerusalem, and understood the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, in preparing him a room in the courts of the house of God.
One of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.
Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon.
Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.
Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.
The tribe of Zebulun: and the prince of the children of Zebulun shall be Eliab the son of Helon.
"On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their divisions. The prince of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.
"The tribe of Gad: and the prince of the children of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel.
"On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their divisions: and the prince of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.
The prince of the fathers' house of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael.
Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites.
The prince of the fathers' house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.
On the third day Eliab the son of Helon, prince of the children of Zebulun
and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two head of cattle, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old. This was the offering of Eliab the son of Helon.
On the fourth day Elizur the son of Shedeur, prince of the children of Reuben
and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two head of cattle, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old. This was the offering of Elizur the son of Shedeur.
On the sixth day, Eliasaph the son of Deuel, prince of the children of Gad
and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two head of cattle, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old. This was the offering of Eliasaph the son of Deuel.
On the seventh day Elishama the son of Ammihud, prince of the children of Ephraim
and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two head of cattle, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old. This was the offering of Elishama the son of Ammihud.
Eliab the son of Helon was over the army of the tribe of the children of Zebulun.
The standard of the camp of Reuben went forward according to their armies. Elizur the son of Shedeur was over his army.
Eliasaph the son of Deuel was over the army of the tribe of the children of Gad.
The standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their armies. Elishama the son of Ammihud was over his army.
If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
the LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?
Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took [men]:
Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said, "We won't come up:
the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you didn't believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."
Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, "If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities."
the LORD listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah.
the LORD said to Moses, "Don't fear him: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."
The sons of Pallu: Eliab.
The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. These are that Dathan and Abiram, who were called of the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD,
The sons of Simeon after their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites;
of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites.
The sons of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Seredites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.
and [of] Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; and [of] Shechem, the family of the Shechemites;
The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;
Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.
The sons of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites;
So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
They traveled from Marah, and came to Elim: and in Elim were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there.
They traveled from Elim, and encamped by the Red Sea.
Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon.
Of the tribe of the children of Zebulun a prince, Elizaphan the son of Parnach.
and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he was fled: and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
Don't stand in the crossroads to cut off those of his who escape. Don't deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress.
Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf,
"How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things;
who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil;
To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words;
for whom the LORD loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.
She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you."
Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.
Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.
Don't lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.
then I was the craftsman by his side. I was a delight day by day, always rejoicing before him,
Rejoicing in his whole world. My delight was with the sons of men.
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.
A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but accurate weights are his delight.
Riches don't profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but the unfaithful will be trapped by evil desires.
A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.
With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but the righteous will be delivered through knowledge.
Those who are perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those whose ways are blameless are his delight.
Most certainly, the evil man will not be unpunished, but the seed of the righteous will be delivered.
Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who do the truth are his delight.
A simple man believes everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.
The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth.
The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
A fool has no delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own opinion.
Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife; but every fool will be quarreling.
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don't crave his delicacies:
The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
