and didn't inquire of the LORD: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.

When Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

Samuel said to him, "the LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
